1. Overview & Data Controller
This Privacy Policy governs the use of the Spelling Hive mobile application (iOS and Android) and website, developed by Arid Clown ("we", "us", or "our"). We act as the data controller for any information processed under this policy.
We believe you should be able to play games without sacrificing your privacy. Spelling Hive is designed from the ground up to respect your personal data.
2. Zero Remote Data Collection
We do not collect, transmit, store, or share any personal data, gameplay logs, device telemetry, or tracking information on remote servers.
- No Accounts: You do not need to register an account, sign in, or provide an email address to play the game.
- No Tracking & Analytics: The app does not integrate any third-party marketing, tracking, profiling, or behavioral analytics SDKs.
- No Ads: The game is completely ad-free and contains no advertising networks or code that monitors your behavior.
3. What is Stored Locally
To keep track of your gameplay, the app saves state locally on your device (using a high-performance local key-value persistence layer, MMKV). This data remains strictly on your device and includes:
- Your active puzzle state (current letters, center tile, found words, and active score).
- Completed puzzle history (to ensure puzzles do not repeat).
- Your player stats (current streak, longest word, total points earned).
- Theme preferences (Ivory, Midnight, Parchment) and app language selection (English, Spanish, Portuguese).
- Earned in-game badges and achievement milestones.
4. Children's Privacy (COPPA & GDPR-K)
Because we do not collect any personal data whatsoever, Spelling Hive is fully compliant with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and the General Data Protection Regulation for Children (GDPR-K).
We do not knowingly solicit or collect personal information from children under the age of 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with any personal information, please contact us immediately, though the app provides no mechanisms for data entry.
5. Device Permissions (Local Notifications)
Spelling Hive may request permission to send you local reminders/notifications.
- These notifications are scheduled and processed **entirely offline** by your device's native operating system.
- No push notification servers or trackers are used.
- You can enable, disable, or adjust these reminders at any time through the app's settings or your device's system settings.
6. User Control & Data Deletion
Because all of your game progress and preferences are stored locally on your device, you are in full control of your data:
- You can completely erase all in-game progress, stats, and badges at any time by selecting the Reset Progress option in the game settings sheet.
- Deleting the Spelling Hive application from your device will also automatically delete all locally stored data associated with it.
